Now a dairy farm can power your server farm

What do 10,000 cows and diesel generators have in common?

Both have the ability to power a 1-megawatt data center. Diesel generators are already used for this purpose at some data center sites, though the energy source is not very environmentally friendly. On the other hand, 10,000 cows grazing a dairy farm produce 20,000 metric tons of manure each year that can be turned into methane gas and eventually electrical power.

That’s according to researchers from HP Labs, who are presenting a paper on these findings at the ASME International Conference on Energy Sustainability in Phoenix on Wednesday.

Stanley Gibbons Acquire Britain’s Rarest Stamp

Stanley Gibbons recently acquired the mythological 1904 6d Pale Dull Purple (I.R. Official) which is on display on their stand (Number 79) at the London 2010 International Stamp Exhibition at the Business Design Center, London until Saturday 15th May.

Issued on 14 May 1904, the Edward VII 6d purple, overprinted I.R. Official, has earned the handle “Britain’s rarest stamp” due to the fact that it was issued on the very day that an official order came into effect withdrawing all official stamps from use.

The only known examples of this stamp in existence today belong to the Royal Collection and one or two museums such as the National Postal Museum.

‘Examples of this rarity just don’t come on to the open market’ said Stanley Gibbons Director of Great Britain Stamps, Vince Cordell.

English opener Shaun Tait fell in the first over but that didn’t deter the team as Craig Kieswetter and Kevin Pietersen added 111 runs off 68 balls for the second wicket. Kieswetter smashed 63 off 49 balls and clobbered 2 sixes and 7 fours while Pietersen smacked 47 in 31 balls with 4 fours and a six. Australia seemed to be back in the game for a short while when Kieswetter and Pietersen were dismissed in successive overs but captain Paul Collingwood and Eoin Morgan made sure England won the game and the series. Skate 3 for Gamers
