Thirty-six years after construction began under the shah, Iran finally opened its first nuclear power plant at a ceremony on Saturday.
Attended by senior officials from Iran and Russia, which helped build the station through years of concern by the United States and other Western nations that Iran was using its civilian program to mask a plan to build a bomb, the ceremony marked the beginning of the transfer of low-enriched uranium fuel rods from a storage site into the plant.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the maker of the People’s Car, is planning to come up with a car costing under Rs 2 lakh to regain its market share in the small car segment that it lost to rival Tata Nano.
For this, it has entered into price negotiations with component suppliers. Maruti Suzuki has asked auto component firms providing parts to Tata Nano for customised cheaper components.
A person close to the development said the firm is seriously planning a car priced closer to Nano. This would take the price point well below the recently relaunched Maruti Suzuki Alto.

The IPL governing council, which met here on Friday, failed to resolve the vexed issue of the format for its fourth edition next year. “No decision was taken,” interim IPL chairman Chirayu Amin told reporters after the council meeting at the Wankhede stadium.
The format for the 2011 season of the T20 league has been under review following the addition of two more franchises, Pune and Kochi, to the fold earlier this year.

Tata Indica, India’s favorite family car added yet another car with added muscle, the new Tata Indica V2 Turbomax. The hatchback with widest cabin in its class that comfortably seats five has a new BS4 complaint engine. The car is fitted with a 1.4L turbocharged producing a maximum output of 71 PS @4500 RPM and a maximum torque of 135 Nm @2500rpm. Tata launches V2 Turbomax in two variants; DLE and DLS.
Tata claims that new V2 Turbomax comes with an ARAI certified mileage of 19kmpl on highway roads and 14kmpl fuel consumption on city roads and a whole lot of interior and exterior feature dressings.

BlackBerry – maker Research In Motion may provide some solution next week to help Indian security agencies access corporate email by obtaining encrypted data in readable format, a government source said on Friday.
Research In Motion (RIM) faces an August 31 deadline to give Indian authorities the means to track and read BlackBerry Enterprise email and its separate BlackBerry Messenger service.

The actual number of people killed by the massive flooding in Pakistan remains unknown because large areas of the country are inaccessible, Islamabad’s U.N. envoy said on Friday.
The official death toll is around 1,500 but the true number of people killed in the disaster may turn out to be higher, Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon told the U.N. General Assembly at the end of a two-day conference on aid for Pakistan.
