Govt wants Google, Skype to set up Servers in India

In order to augment cyber and telecom security in the country, Government of India will ask Google and Skype to set up servers in the country and give access to its internet data.

The chief bureaucrat in the Home Ministry G K Pillai on Wednesday said that company who operates communication services in India should have a server in the country for government monitoring. (more…)

Elephant to be declared as National Heritage Animal

In order to protect the big animals and to avoid the killing of elephants in the country, government of India has decided to declare the elephant as a national heritage animal.

Union Envir [Elephant] onment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the killing of elephants in the country and for their security purpose, there is a need for renewed approach and mission associated with the religion and culture of the country. (more…)

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 warm-up matches

ICC has announced the schedule of warm-up matches before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to be held at India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The 13 warm-up matches will be held from February 12 to 18 at Bangalore, Chennai, Chittagong, Colombo, Dhaka, Nagpur and Pallekele . The schedule of the matches are as follows.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets

Fake Rs 10 coins entering India

Investigations into the first-ever busting of a gang running a business in fake coins gang has led Delhi Police to ask for help from central investigating agencies because a foreign hand appears to have played a prominent role.

Delhi Police sources said that the very fact that a fake minting unit had come up at Veerganj in Nepal showed a very “professional” group was behind the entire operation. “Our information says about Rs 1 crore worth of fake coins have entered the country through eastern UP. We are in talks with the Reserve Bank and seeking their cooperation in identifying the fake coins already in circulation,” said a source.

Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 3 wickets

Dambulla: Sri Lanka huffed and puffed to a three-wicket win over New Zealand in the second ODI of the tri-series and helped India reclaim the second spot in the ICC ODI team rankings on Friday. India had surrendered the second position to Kiwis after the humiliating 200-run loss in the series-opener.

Opener Upul Tharanga (70 off 109) was top scorer in Sri Lanka’s haphazard chase as Sri Lanka scored 195 for seven in 40.5 overs in a target of 193.

New Zealand, electing to bat, were all out for 192 in 48.1 overs after Sri Lanka’s pace duo of Lasith Malinga (3/35) and Angelo Mathews (3/36) shared six wickets between them. The Kiwi total was built around some good effort by debutant BJ Watling (55) and Nathan McCullum (36).
