Its been around 3 weeks since the New Rupee Symbol was launched – It seems our Mint has got into action and came up with a design (hopefully) of the New 10 rupee coin. Don’t Worry, download the all new rupee symbol on to your computer for free.Mangalore based Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd has created a font called Rupee_Foradian. Users can download the new symbol from their website for free.
The company created a vector image of the new rupee sign and mapped the ‘grave accent’ symbol, the key just above the tab button on the keyboard, with it. This keystroke was chosen because most users and programmers don’t use it.

Indian rupee gets a symbol, joins elite currency club

NEW DELHI: The Indian rupee will soon have a unique symbol — a blend of the Devanagri ‘Ra’ and Roman ‘R’ — joining elite currencies like the US dollar, euro, British pound and Japanese yen in having a distinct identity.
The new symbol, designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D Udaya Kumar, was approved by the cabinet today — reflecting that the Indian currency, backed by an over-trillion dollar economy, was finally making its presence felt on the international scene. (more…)
